First Day of Our Homeschool

Homeschool First Day Jitters

Homeschooler

We moved to North Carolina from Georgia due to my husband's work. The school system in the area we moved to was not really going to work for my son, he has severe ADHD, and the school was already short staffed from covid.

My husband agreed to let me stay home and homeschool him myself. Sounded simply enough until the moment I am supposed to teach, and words are supposed to come out of my mouth. I freeze up like a deer in headlights. I am thinking, I am not a teacher, I was a medical assistant for 10 years. I have no idea home to get the information out of the books into my child's head.

What if he thinks it is boring or worse than public school? I gave him a book and put on some classical music, told him that mom needed a minute to gather her thoughts. Before I could do anything, he started asking me questions about the book he was looking at and who was playing on the Alexa device. We ended up diving into the lessons I had set out without even realizing it.

I figured out quickly that he is curious and self-led, I will just take what he is interested in and teach him about that. Sprinkle in the core learning and the rest will come naturally. I was freaking out over nothing. Homeschooling is like motherhood; you just end up doing things your own way and it works for your family.

Thank you for stopping by our blog. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as we have.  Remember, homeschooling is learning as you go along side your child and making moments that you both will never forget.
